According to pcmag.com, Apple Pay is now available as an payment option at all subway stations and in buses across New York's five boroughs. The offering is part of the MTA's One Metro New York (ONMY) payment system, which aims to replace plastic MetroCards by 2023. The feature is now available at every location.
Furthermore, the OMNY system works with contactless cards and smartphones or wearables like smartwatches. Users can pay for individual rides via Apple Pay, though there is no way to purchase unlimited monthly or weekly passes just yet. Besides, MTA is expected to add more fare options in 2021, while Metro North and LIRR are expected to receive OMNY in 2022.
OMNY also works with Google Pay, Samsung Pay, and Fitbit Pay, as well as contactless cards from Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover, pcmag.com stated.
