Worldline Italia to partner with Cassa Centrale Group

Payment service provider Worldline Italia has announced that Cassa Centrale Group is pursuing negotiations for a long-term collaboration in the acquiring landscape.  

As per the information detailed in the press release, Worldline was chosen by the Cassa Centrale Group to enter exclusive negotiations for a long-term partnership in the acquiring sector. The collaboration is set to involve the provision of services along the value chain of digital payment acceptance and global acquisition for the 66 Group’s bank affiliates, which own 1,480 branches in Italy.

Worldline – Cassa Centrale Group collaboration objectives

The partnership includes the supply and management of POS terminals and the exclusive acquisition of international circuits for approximately 90,000 POS terminals, which generated transacted volumes of nearly EUR 9 billion in 2023. Additionally, the deal aims to solidify Worldline’s presence in the Italian market, intending to double the number of merchants and POS terminals in the region. The collaboration also works towards ensuring benefits in terms of innovation and advancement of the product portfolio for the customer network of the Group’s banks. Cassa Centrale Group’s members are set to have the ability to receive Worldline’s specialised solutions and an enhanced customer experience.

Furthermore, representatives from Worldline underlined their company’s enthusiasm over being selected by Cassa Centrale Group. The announcement establishes Worldline’s expansion in the Italian market, underscoring the abilities of its offering, while also gaining the assistance model for banks and business support. The collaboration enables the company to merge its international experience with its Italian market insight, which was gained from existing partnerships with financial institutions in the country, including BNL/BNP Paribas, Banco Desio, and Banca del Fucino. Currently, Worldline focuses on helping businesses of all sizes accelerate their growth strategy in a simplified and secure manner. With its payment technology, local expertise, and solutions tailored to the needs of specific markets and industries, the company enables the development of over 1 million businesses globally and, according to its data, generated EUR 4.6 billion in revenue in 2023.

Worldline’s past developments

At the beginning of February 2024, Worldline announced its plans to reduce its global workforce by 8% as part of its cost reduction strategy. With the move initially announced in October 2023, the company confirmed that it initiated social processes with the relevant employee representative bodies within the Worldline group. The plan was expected to deliver EUR 200 million run-rate cash cost savings from 2025.


Prior to this, TrueLayer entered a collaboration with Worldline to provide instant payouts, deposits, and signups through the Worldline Payment Orchestration. TrueLayer was set to provide its full suite of products and services through the Worldline Payment Orchestration as part of the partnership, with its tools and solutions being expected to merge payment with onboarding via its Signup+ product.
