Visa to Make Personal Card Design Technology Available to Member Banks

Wednesday 28 April 2004 20:05 CET | News

Visa International has entered into a strategic partnership with Serverside Graphics that will allow Visa member banks the opportunity to offer payment cards designed by the cardholder.

Once member banks adopt the technology, Visa cardholders will be able to use their own photographic or artful images - from family and pets to childrens or personal artwork - to create their own customized Visa credit, debit, pre-paid or gift cards. Visa plans to launch the program immediately to its members. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new technology utilizes Serverside Graphics suite of proprietary software and services to allow Visa cardholders to fully design the appearance of their cards. When a cardholder requests a customized card, the issuer directs the cardholder to a unique user-friendly website. Serversides image editor, a web-based software program, allows the cardholder to upload a selected image and then place it on a Visa card template however he or she wishes. The image is checked for acceptability, printed on a Visa card and then sent to the cardholder. When accessing the system, the cardholder is given a unique identification to preserve privacy. The secure system does not require any personal cardholder data.
