Visa and the China National Tourism Association Sign Global Agreement

Visa International and the China National Tourism Association (CNTA) have announced a five-year global alliance to promote China worldwide as a key travel destination and declare Visa the Official Partner of China Tourism.

The alliance will showcase Visas Olympic sponsorship which runs through 2012, the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, as well as jointly promote China tourism worldwide. Visa also will be the Preferred Partner of the CNTA as a result of the alliance which will run through December 2008. The objective of this alliance is to jointly promote China tourism, improve the China tourism payment environment, increase tourism revenues and increase Visa volume in China. Visa has created similar alliances with merchants and travel and tourism bodies in Olympic host nations that have helped drive millions of dollars in incremental business to their economies. Visas Olympic marketing programs are designed to generate excitement for the Olympic Games, incremental business for Visa members worldwide and increased revenue for the host nations and cities. In the next five years, Visa and the CNTA will work together to create unique programs to benefit the nations travel industry, merchant community, and Visas member financial institutions worldwide. As the official partner of China Tourism, special advertising and marketing programs will be developed jointly to stimulate both inbound and outbound travel and to promote China as a key travel destination. Additionally, Visas member and merchant Olympic marketing programs using advertising, direct mail, cardholder communications and Olympic promotions will promote China around the world. According to the World Travel Association, by 2020, China will become the largest inbound travel destination in the world and the fourth largest source market for outbound travel. The current annual inbound travel revenue is over US$20 billion, and outbound spending is over US$15 billion. With the impact of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Chinas entry to the WTO, by 2008, the total China tourism industry will reach nearly US$100 billion. China will be included in Visas merchant marketing programs using advertising, direct mail, and other promotional materials aimed at Visas 21,000 member financial institutions around the world. China also will be featured on Visas premier travel website, As the preferred partner of the CNTA, special programs and assistance will be provided to Visa cardholders through jointly developed tourism offers and packages. Such offers may be included in Visas member program The Worlds Best Offers, as well as in special programs created for Visas Signature and Infinite card clients all over the world.
