French Groupe Casino, has chosen VeriFones SC 5000 PINpad to migrate to the latest French payment standard based on EMV specifications, CB5.2. A successful store pilot, involving118 Pinpads has already taken place in supermarkets in Saint Etienne and Clermont Ferrand, and in hypermarkets in Firminy ,Quimper, St Jean de Maurienne and Aix les Bains. More than 6000 units are due to be integrated with Casino’s electronic cash registers (ECRs) in 400 hypermarkets and supermarkets throughout France, beginning in March 2004. The SC 5000 is the first EMV Level 2-certified PINpad available on the French market. As part of the solution implementation, Casino’s ECRs will be equipped with SoftPOS, the integrated Electronic Fund Transfer (EFT) software developed by VeriFone and upgraded to the latest payment standards by French partner, AtosEuronext Payment Solutions. The entire solution recently received CB5.2 EMV pilot approval by GIE Cartes Bancaires. In addition to CB5.2 compliance, the SC 5000 is a plug and play device, enabling it to be integrated with other integrated EFT software available in the French market. The SC 5000 is protected by a comprehensive array of hardware and software-based security features and adheres to Triple DES (3DES) encryption standards being adopted by the payment industry to raise the level of fraud protection for PIN-based debit transactions. The SC 5000 PINpad provides the easiest way to upgrade existing terminals or electronic cash registers to support EMV requirements, and is the only peripheral device chosen as part of the Visa Smart Breakthrough Acceptance Device program designed to accelerate EMV throughout the world.
