An RL5000, representing Tritons latest state-of-the-art self-service device, was the 100,000th ATM the company manufactured since beginning ATM production in 1994. Triton distributors had been participating in a contest since January 1 that earned them one entry in the drawing for each ATM they ordered before production of the 100,000th unit. Cash Point Machines is one of Tritons UK distributors. The award, and Tritons milestone production of its 100,000th ATM, mark the 10th anniversary of retail ATMs, an industry that Triton launched with the introduction of the first dial-up ATM with a true cash-dispensing mechanism for off-premise locations in June 1994, when the companys first ATM went into beta at a convenience store in Diamondhead, Mississippi. The Triton 9500s use of dial-up transmission technology and a cost-efficient dispensing mechanism ignited the explosive growth of ATMs in off-premise retail settings, which now comprise more than half of the nations ATM fleet. Triton is the largest manufacturer of ATMs designed for this market.
