This collaboration supported Ribbon's initial launch in Gibraltar and its subsequent expansion to the UK. Ribbon, established in Gibraltar in March 2020 offers a financial super-app catering to both personal and business users. The platform provides multi-currency accounts, personalised financial tools, and instant money transfer services, with a focus on sustainability.
Ribbon launched in Gibraltar earlier in 2024, leveraging Tribe Payments' issuer processing services, and recently introduced its services in the UK.
In addition to issuer processing, Ribbon will leverage Tribe’s proprietary Risk Monitor platform. This tool evaluates card transactions in real time, helping Ribbon meet anti-money laundering (AML) compliance requirements while enhancing transaction security. Tribe’s 3D Secure solution will also enable Ribbon to provide improved fraud prevention services and seamless authentication for online payments.
Ribbon's co-founders emphasised the importance of Tribe’s technology in their operations. They noted that the UK launch fulfils a goal of simplifying cross-border money transfers for NRIs. Moreover, they highlighted Ribbon's sustainability focus, stating that every card transaction contributes to environmental goals, with users able to track their carbon footprint via the app.
