Officials at Translink, described this advancement as another significant step towards providing customer-focused, innovative ticketing that emphasises ease of use, simplicity, convenience, and integration. The company seeks to encourage more passengers to utilise the convenient contactless ticketing system, which will help reduce cash payments and speed up boarding times.

Furthermore, Translink noted that the on-board technology supports smart device wallets like Apple Pay and Google Pay, as well as Visa and Mastercard (including Maestro) contactless credit and debit cards, and pre-paid contactless cards.

Officials from the company mentioned that completing the roll-out was timely in anticipation of the Belfast Grand Central Station opening in the autumn of 2024. Construction on the new bus and rail center is in its final stages.

The new transport hub, located near the current Europa Bus Centre and Great Victoria Street rail station, has seen its costs rise to GBP 340 million. The hub will feature 26 bus stands, eight railway platforms, and facilities for bicycles and taxis.
