TNS Helps Cardpoint to Expand ATM Network in Germany

Monday 29 November 2004 22:43 CET | News

A contract awarded to Transaction Network Services (TNS), by Cardpoint, has enabled the UKs leading ATM operator to extend its cash-point network into Germany within just four months.

In a three-year contract, Cardpoint has appointed TNS to provide dial-up ISDN services to support a new network of ATMs in Germany. It selected the TNS network on account of in-built redundancy giving customers maximum availability of service. The contract enables Cardpoint to penetrate one of the largest consumer markets in Europe. In Germany only 10% of ‘remote’ locations are currently served with ATMs as the majority of ATMs are still located at the sites of high-street banks. Cardpoint recently acquired HBOS ATM network adding 850 remote ATMs in the UK. A mere sixteen weeks elapsed from Cardpoint’s decision to move into Germany to the initial ATMs being operational. Full rollout of Cardpoint’s ATMs is scheduled to commence in Autumn 2004. The deal builds on a three-year relationship with TNS, to give Cardpoint an all-in-one dial-up network and processing solution. Cardpoint uses TNS’ services to transport and process millions of transactions from over 3,000 ATMs and mobile phone top-up kiosks each year. Cardpoint recently appointed TNS to provide GPRS wireless solutions enabling it to introduce mobile cash machines in new locations such as open-air events, concerts and festivals.
