TietoEnator and ToP Tunniste to deliver Finlands first library RFid solution to Kauhajoki

Monday 7 June 2004 00:23 CET | News

As the first library in Finland, the Kauhajoki public library will implement RFid technology in its loan operations. TietoEnator has integrated the technology into its PallaPro library system, and ToP Tunniste has developed and delivered the equipment required by the new technology.

The solution streamlines customer service operations, helps to manage materials and reduces material losses. The equipment reads the RFid (Radio Frequency Identification) label using radio frequencies. The labels replace bar codes and alarm labels. The label attached to the book contains a microchip. Information on the material item is saved in the chip. When using RFid labels, visual contact is no longer necessary for identifying the books. Instead of handling each book separately, an entire pile of books can be registered at once. The system also includes a self-check system delivered by the company P.V.SuPa. The microchip also switches alarms on and off when the material is borrowed or returned. This increases the reliability of protection.
