The ERA serves as a blueprint for CIOs and IT architects for establishing a flexible, lasting enterprise infrastructure. It provides the ability to quickly adapt to changes in business conditions, reduces the amount of time spent developing custom code and complex applications, and provides long-term cost savings. Initial contributors to the reference architecture include Hewlett-Packard, Intel, and TIBCO. Additional vendors have expressed plans to contribute. Doculabs, publisher of the ERA, will maintain the architecture for the foreseeable future. Doculabs will also provide updates on a quarterly basis as new standards are developed and established, such as the Data Center Markup Language (DCML) and the Web Services Management Framework (WSMF), and new members are established.
