Swivel PINsafe M2F Offers First Secure Login for Microsoft Windows

Tuesday 9 March 2004 00:26 CET | News

Swivel Secure has released PINsafe M2F V 2.2, the companys mobile device-based, strong authentication technology, which now includes enhanced authentication for Microsoft Windows. This latest version enables Swivel users to use a mobile phone-generated, one-time code to securely login to their Windows environment as well as to their network or Web-based applications. PINsafe M2F V2.2 provides a single, strong authentication protocol for both large and small enterprises and mitigates the risk of unauthorized access posed by the widely recognized weaknesses of password-only based user identification systems. Unlike other recently announced solutions for secure authentication, Swivel does not rely on costly and difficult to administer single purpose tokens. PINsafe M2F provides a low-cost strong authentication alternative to existing password, token and smart card based technologies by leveraging the full functionality of mobile phones and PDAs. The system means that the users do not have to worry about forgetting to carry any special device to access their corporate desktops. Using a 4 to 10 digit PIN and a security string sent ahead of the authentication event to their mobile phone, PINsafe M2F enables the user to generate a disposable one-time code without risking exposing their secret credential to keyboard spyware.
