Svenska Handelsbanken Selects Wincor Nixdorfs

Swedish Svenska Handelsbanken, is the first bank outside Germany to decide to use Wincor Nixdorfs daNCe software platform.

daNCe which stands for device architecture in a Network Centric environment is used to talk to specialist teller systems in banks, such as passbook and voucher printers, card readers and automated teller safes (ATS), within thin client environments. Svenska Handelsbanken is now going to use daNCe to address its teller peripherals as part of a newly-developed JAVA-based branch application. Especially for users with the large number of branches, net-centric thin client models using branch servers represent an attractive alternative. The use of Internet technology does not just lower the cost of maintaining and supporting terminal equipment. The cost of software distribution is actually avoided in its entirety. So far, wall-to-wall deployment of the thin client philosophy within banks has failed at the hurdle of specialist peripherals which were not able to be included. daNCe is the first system to provide a way out of this, enabling banks for the first time to harness the benefits of thin client architecture for their counter systems also. Svenska Handelsbanken has selected daNCe as part of its new net-centric branch solution because it guarantees - for the first time - that peripheral equipment can be configured, administered and address centrally, thereby allowing all printers and ATS to be accessed with ease and flexibility. Associated with this is a significant reduction in IT running costs. Svenska Handelsbanken’s new teller application is intended to go into live operation together with daNCe in 2006. The bank has also decided to replace its existing ATS with Wincor Nixdorf ProCash 6100s. The 54 systems are to be installed as early as the end of October 2004.
