The Tap-to-Pay on Android technology enables Square sellers to securely accept credit card contactless payments directly from a compatible Android device, at no additional cost and without the requirement for extra hardware.
With the introduction of Tap-to-Pay on Android, Square is looking to make it increasingly easy for new sellers and established businesses alike to conduct in-person commerce, including the ability for larger or more complex businesses to take payments away from their counter, or on the move. Making use of a compatible Android device, a seller needs to simply open a Square point-of-sale app, enter the sale details, and present their smartphone to the customers. From that point onwards, the buyer has visibility over the total they owe along with the familiar contactless payments symbol and can choose to complete the payment either with a contactless credit card, or a credit card within a digital wallet of the likes of Google Pay.
The press release further highlights that Tap-to-Pay on Android is powered by Square’s intuitive software that provides businesses with a flexible, mobile solution, and looks to meet consumers’ increasing preferences for contactless payments. What is more, Square’s software brings forth advantages to consumers as well, offering them a smooth and straightforward checkout experience, enabling them to see all the information required to help them complete their purchases in a confident manner.
When commenting on the launch, Square representatives advised that the company’s goal is to ensure that its sellers, no matter the location or who they serve, never miss a sale. Per their statement, the introduction of Tap-to-Pay on Android brings to Canada a unique technology set to benefit millions of sellers worldwide, providing merchants with a simple way to accept payments and access advanced, integrated software for their business.
More to this point, the official said that although the Tap-to-Pay technology has only been available for a short period, the breadth of applications and use cases seen across the company’s seller base comes as a reinforcement of its staying power.
