South Korean Government Selects RFID Solution from Savi Technology and LG CNS

Through a program sponsored by the South Korean government to improve the efficiency and security of international cargo container shipments, Savi Technology and strategic alliance partner LG CNS have begun implementation of Savis software and Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) solution at the Port of Busan - the worlds third largest container port.

Savi Technology is a leading provider of RFID supply chain solutions and LG CNS is the market leader in the Korean IT Service market. Launched last December and planned through summer, the Smart Container program is being funded by the South Korean Government. The project, called RFID-enabled Maritime Logistics, is aimed at deploying advanced, proven RFID technologies and solutions to enhance the efficiency and security of global trade with South Korea. It also marks the extension of Savis integrated global network solution for real-time supply chain visibility, management and security to South Korea, one of Asias largest trading partners with the United States (shipping over 900,000 TEUs between the countries annually). Smart Containers, equipped with Savis RFID-enabled tags and sensor products, and monitored by Savis Transportation Security System (TSS) software, are transporting products from the Port of Busan to major ports along the U.S. West Coast and Europe for major suppliers. Savis networked RFID solutions, based on the international ISO 18000-7 standard operating at the 433.92 MHz frequency, have tracked more than one million shipments the past decade through more than 1,600 locations and 45 countries. This project will leverage several of Savis active RFID products, including Savi Tag ST-645, an electronic bolt seal; and, the Savi Sentinel, an RFID-enabled sensor seal, which will be attached to the containers being shipped during the program. These tags communicate key data such as the location and security status of the container as well as changes in light, temperature and humidity inside the container in real-time to the Savi reader network. Savis Site Managers will manage the local reader networks and collect, filter, validate and forward the RFID generated information to TSS. Savis web-enabled TSS system monitors the containers as they pass through the supply chain and enables shippers to track the real-time location, status and security of shipments. The Systems alert feature will advise shippers of potential issues with security, heat or humidity that may affect product quality, and of any delays or diversions as the containers pass through the supply chain.
