Softpay accepts Dankort wallet payments

As per the information detailed in the press release, the current move allows merchants who use Softpay as their payment terminals to enhance the customer experience by accepting Dankort payments using Apple Pay. With assistance from Nets, Danske Bank initially announced in October 2021 its plans to introduce Dankort to Apple Pay and allow Nets to support other issuers in Denmark and abroad with this feature. Additionally, the two organisations intended to enable merchant customers to enrol other commercial cards or domestic schemes into the Apple Wallet. Dankort was integrated into Apple Pay in 2022, enabling users to leverage their iPhone or Apple Watch to pay instead of their physical card.

SoftPOS provider Softpay has announced that its tap-to-phone solution now supports Dankort wallet payments on iOS.

Dankort’s integration with Softpay

With contactless payments being introduced in 2015, Dankort became widely accepted across Denmark and, currently, over 90% of transactions are contactless. This is supported by Danes’ tendency to leverage contactless payments instead of traditional ones, with a significant increase since the COVID-19 pandemic. Statista’s data showed that compared with the first quarter of 2016 when contactless payments composed 4% of all payments in Danish physical stores, during the second quarter of 2021, 72% of all payments were made contactless. Moreover, Nets’ report underlined that at the end of 2022, the share of all card payments made contactless reached 93%, with the share increasing to 94% at the beginning of 2023.

According to Softpay’s officials, the latest version of their company’s solution extends its card scheme acceptance to include Dankort in Apple Pay in addition to physical cards. This focuses on providing Danish merchants with more flexibility and convenience on contactless payment options for their customers. The current announcement intends to support the improvement of both merchant and customer experiences by offering efficiency and accessibility. As a national Danish card scheme, Dankort assists merchants in their growth journey as the prices for receiving payments are regulated by law and lower than for other cards. In addition to being available for merchants operating in physical stores, Dankort can be integrated into web shops for a fee of 0.31% per transaction.

Furthermore, Dankort payments intend to maintain an increased level of security, with the card having a chip solution and being contactless, which prevents fraudsters from skimming a PIN in payment situations. For online shopping, Dankort raised its security by introducing the Dankort Secured by Nets online security solution, which prompts text message approval upon payment.
