SOFTBANK Groups Yahoo! BB Adopts ILOG BRMS to Streamline, Simplify New Billing System

SOFTBANK BB has selected ILOG JRules, to help streamline a new billing system for its comprehensive broadband service, Yahoo! BB.

SOFTBANK BB selected ILOG JRules to help simplify the management of the highly complex billing system because of its ability to directly involve non-IT users in the creation and maintenance of rules, a capability the company expects will reduce time-to-market by 50 percent. The agility enabled by ILOG JRules enables SOFTBANK BB to deploy and manage Yahoo! BBs multiple targeted services and campaigns more efficiently. The complexity of the application stems from the need to market extensive and personalized service plans -- such as ADSL connection, SOFTBANK BBS IP telephony service, BB Phone and wireless LAN packages -- that are mapped to varying fee structures, all while managing customized campaign programs. Since the service and campaign policies are now managed in a separate, flexible ILOG JRules-based system, the rules can now be easily managed, changed and maintained by business users, making the operation and maintenance of the billing system easier and more responsive to the needs of the business. Yahoo! BBs approximately 3.6 million customers will directly benefit from the efficiency gains, since the enhancements to the system will have a positive impact on customer service in the form of access to information and services. By directly involving business analysts, customer service representatives and other non-IT staff in the management of business rules, allowing these business users to contribute directly to the companys agility, ILOG JRules enables businesses like Yahoo! BB to respond faster to dynamic business conditions and enhances interaction with customers. For SOFTBANK BB, the rule-based management of individual policies will enable the company to update and track each customers billing information on a daily basis.
