Snapchat to shut down mobile payment service

Snapchat has announced that it will shut down its mobile payments service Snapcash on August 30, according to TechCrunch.

Shutting down the feature will imply the closing of Snapchat’s four-year partnership with Square to power the feature for sending people money.

Snapcash was the first product created in partnership with another company, a spokesperson noting also that users would be notified in-app and through the support site, the online publication continues.

The person-to-person payments platform powered by Square was launched in 2014.
