Wincor Nixdorf is to equip LOTTO-TOTO outlets in the German province of Saxony with 1,480 Xion /Mtop lottery terminals.

Following in the footsteps of other operators in the provinces of Mecklenburg-West-Pomerania, Lower Saxony and North-Rhine-Westphalia, Sächsische LOTTO-GmbH now joins the ranks of German lottery companies who have decided in favor of Wincor Nixdorf. The move means Wincor Nixdorf moves ahead decisively into the lead position in the wave of RFQs currently underway. In this initiative, in which the German lottery companies are planning the introduction of a new generation of terminals, four out of six operators have come down in favor of Wincor Nixdorf and ordered a total of 8,500 terminals in a period of two years. This order also means Wincor Nixdorf has established itself as a provider of all-round solutions to the lottery market, as its offering includes a large span of service components as well as hardware and software. Once the systems have been installed successfully, Sächsische LOTTO-GmbH ? already an existing Wincor Nixdorf user ? will have an innovative, up-to-the-minute IT estate available in its outlets. Under the project, the existing central system is to be complemented by a new so-called added-value services server running an editorial system controlling multimedia applications on the shop terminals. The added-value services server will also handle the administration of the scratchcard lotteries. The basic foundation will be provided by the Wincor Nixdorf ProClassic/Enterprise standard application architecture which can be upgraded at any time to a multichannel platform, enabling new terminal units to be hooked up without any problem. Further components of this complex installation are a download server for distributing software updates, the provision of a remote administration tool for monitoring the terminals and the integration of VPN data encryption. The rollout of the 1,480 terminals, which will also be masterminded by Wincor Nixdorf, will commence in Spring 2004 and be complete within 16 weeks, by the end of July.
