The new system is a result of a cooperation between Precise Biometrics and VingCard Marine, the marine division of ASSA ABLOY Hospitality a.s, an ASSA ABLOY Group company. Under the terms of the cooperation, VingCard Marine has integrated Precise Biometrics fingerprint functionality, Precise BioMatch, into their Gangway Control System. In addition to the development tools already provided, Precise Biometrics will be licensing the companys software as well as provide fingerprint readers, consulting services, maintenance and training. With VingCard Marines new fingerprint based access control system, crew and passengers on cruise liners and ferries will board by placing their finger on a fingerprint reader as verification of the card holders identity. Thanks to the fingerprint based check-in provided by Precise Biometrics and the ability of the system to work directly with VingCards key system or the ships hotel system database, the system will be able to give information about who is on the ship and who has disembarked, instead of a static passenger list. This is of importance not least due to the new rules and regulations regarding preventive measures against security threats, i.e. the ISPS Code (International Ship and Port Facility Security Code), which will be applicable from July 1, 2004. Integrating biometrics, such as fingerprint technology, into passenger control systems will enable VingCard Marine to retain its position in the forefront of security at sea. The new fingerprint based crew and passenger access control system will be marketed, sold and distributed to the marine industry by VingCard Marines existing sales channels on a worldwide basis.
