Wincor Nixdorfs Beetle/M point-of-sale (POS) systems are being installed in 945 OfficeMax stores throughout the U.S. The POS systems are based on Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system along with Fujitsus GlobalStore POS software, and will serve a dual role as in-store POS servers and POS checkout systems. Over 2,000 of Beetle/M POS systems have already been installed, with approximately 2,000 additional units due to be added by year end. The systems will help OfficeMax improve customer service through faster checkout times coupled with various CRM (Customer Relationship Management) capabilities at the point of sale, the companies said. Each terminal is powered by a 1-GHz Intel Pentium III processor and includes a touch screen display, debit/credit capabilities, and a smart card reader. Wincor Nixdorf will also provide third-party peripherals including Epson TM-H6000II printers, Symbol LS1902T scanners, and Hypercom ICE 6000 signature capture terminals.
