Tuesday 22 February 2022 12:50 CET | News

Italy-based paytech company Nexi has announced it is in advanced talks to acquire the Italian payment unit of BPER Banca for around EUR 350, for further consolidation in the payments sector.

The Italian payments company began exclusive discussions with BPER earlier in February 2022 to buy its merchant acquiring business, which specialises in the management of electronic payments.  A deal is expected to be signed by the end of March, according to bloomberg.com.

Since 2017, Nexi has bought the merchant payment businesses of several Italian banking partners, including the units of Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena, Banca Carige and Intesa Sanpaolo. In Greece, Nexi also agreed to buy the payment business of Alpha Bank in November 2022, while its main peer Worldline has bought the merchant acquiring unit of Eurobank.
