New POS Terminal Sets Investment Value Standard

NCR has introduced the NCR RealPOS70, the industrys first touchscreen point-of-sale (POS)workstation that combines tool-free serviceability with other standard features to offer a new level of investment value.

The NCR RealPOS 70 is built around Intels EmbeddedATX specification, providing a more stable POS platform and extended lifecycle through the use of an industry-standard motherboard design. An additional benefit is that retailers can upgrade their POS terminals by simply replacing the motherboard rather than buying all new hardware. Servicing the terminal is just as simple. The NCR RealPOS 70 makes components easily accessible for quick, intuitive servicing, without compromising terminal security. For example, the operator display, motherboard, hard drive or power supply can be replaced in minutes with no need for a screwdriver or other tools. The new NCR workstation is easy to upgrade. For example, converting from a 12.1-inch to a 15-inch operator display is quick and tool-free, while preserving the retailers original POS terminal investment. Emerging technologies such as fingerprint recognition or wireless communications can also be added with ease. The NCR RealPOS 70 is a multipurpose system offering more than just POS functionality. With a powerful Intel processor starting at 2 gigahertz, standard stereo speakers and full multimedia capabilities, it can double as a kiosk or interactive training device. In addition, the base of the workstation can be configured for wall mounting, and an attachment on the back allows for additional customer displays or promotional signage. The NCR RealPOS 70 is also the industrys first integrated touchscreen workstation to offer 24-volt and 12-volt powered Universal Serial Bus (USB) connectors while supporting legacy non-powered USB or serial peripherals. This eliminates the multiple power cords, power supplies and outlets needed by many other POS terminals, and all personal computers, to support retail peripherals. Continuing NCRs longstanding commitment to the OPOS and JavaPOS programming interface standards, the NCR RealPOS 70 provides an open platform for current and next-generation software applications. NCRs remote resolution capabilities, available on the entire family of NCR RealPOS solutions, also contribute to improved total cost of ownership by increasing system availability and reducing downtime. Using state-of-the-art technology, world-class processes and skilled professionals, NCR can remotely isolate and diagnose problems and, in many cases, help retailers resolve incidents without in-store disruption.
