Mastercard launches new research and development centre

Monday 20 September 2021 11:06 CET | News

Mastercard has announced its new Sweden-based Sustainability Innovation Lab that will serve as a global research and development centre for climate conscious digital products and solutions.

According to the press release, the new centre will focus on ways to support businesses and consumers to transform how they produce, distribute, and purchase products and services, ensuring both people and the planet can grow well as the global economy digitises.

Recognising that consumption will have to shift to a more sustainable paradigm in order to meet global carbon reduction targets, Mastercard is collaborating on digital solutions designed to empower businesses, governments and consumers across its network to help preserve the environment.

The lab’s initial priorities include iterating on the Mastercard Carbon Calculator feature, already embedded across the company’s network, ensuring that it is seamlessly implemented by customers.
