Five ICBC MasterCard credit cards were carried into space onboard the Shenzhou-5 manned spacecraft.

This announcement kick starts a six-month promotion program of the ICBC MasterCard Peony International Golden Card. Staff who participated in the mission will get a one year waiver of their annual fees while those who received awards from the central government will enjoy a life time wavier. Statistics released at the 10th Anniversary of the Golden Project showed that the number of bankcards issued in China has exceeded 569 million, with 544 million debit cards and 24.99 million secured and genuine credit cards. This is an increase of about 16 and 141 times respectively, as compared to ten years ago. The MasterCard credit cards that were taken into space onboard Shenzhou V will be displayed in museums in Beijing and Shanghai as testament of the historic mission.
