VeriFone has successfully rolled out a project for a major oil industry leader, supporting the consolidation of payment transactions across its entire European retail network.

VeriFone was selected via a competitive tender to deliver the solution, which is already implemented in France and Italy and will shortly be rolled out in UK, Ireland, Austria and Belgium. The solution is based on VeriFones Omni 3740 terminal and SC 5000 EMV programmable smart card PINpad. Over 1500 units of each product will be shipped to the oil companys retail sites in total throughout the countries planning to implement the solution, which will include fleet card transactions and credit and debit payments, where appropriate. With a number of different communications networks throughout our customers European retail sites, the Omni 3740 model is the perfect choice to deliver both speed and flexibility of connectivity. The Omni 3740 is equipped with the option of different plug-and-play communications modules - including high-speed modem, ISDN and ethernet. In the UK, the Omni 3740 will allow the oil company to communicate over its VSAT satellite network. This modularity offers significant flexibility through a common platform, benefiting from the same operating system, footprint and applications, in addition to providing a common transaction and cardholder experience throughout the different countries. The Omni 3740 runs VeriFones Verix multi-application architecture, enabling secure support of fleet card transactions and other value-added applications on the same terminal. Additionally, ISO 8583-compliance on the Omni 3740 ensures that the oil company can meet any future requirement for a global fuel card payment based on the protocol, currently being championed by The International Forecourt Standard Forum (IFSF) and US-based National Association of Convenience Stores (NACS), and supported by all major petroleum companies in Europe. The SC 5000 PINpad is PIN entry device (PED) compliant and supports multiple value-added applications including EMV smart card, enabling VeriFones customer to be ready for Europe-wide migration to EMV compliance and the move from signature-based authorization to PIN verification. The SC 5000 is protected by a broad range of software-based security features and adheres to Triple DES (3DES) encryption standards being adopted by the payment industry to raise the level of fraud protection for PIN-based debit transactions.
