The token identifies the cardholder to the network and allows the merchant to accept payment from them for goods or services. It seems obvious, but is probably worth stating, the POS terminal connects the consumer and merchant, a pivotal role. The report covers the issues facing the POS industry; the technologies and innovations such as Internet Protocol, Contactless Cards, and RFID tagging that are playing a central role in shaping the evolution of the card payment. The report also provides a macro view of the global POS industry and the key players. A companion report provides further analysis of the regions and the vendors themselves. Highlights of this report include: - Analysis of the ongoing development of electronic payments, with particular reference to the rise in debit transactions. - A discussion on card fraud and the requirement for EMV compliance globally - A comprehensive overview of the technologies that are positively and negatively impacting the POS environment including IP enablement, wireless protocols, contactless cards, RFID tags, biometrics and e-commerce - A macro view of the Global POS industry, by region and by vendor - A projection of the directions that the industry is likely to go it and problems that may arise en-route
