Intec sets new InterconnecT performance record at HP labs

Intec Telecom Systems has announced new performance figures for the latest version of Intecs InterconnecT billing system on Hewlett-Packards Superdome server.

On the fastest server configuration InterconnecT processed billing records equal to the daily combined output of five national PTTs in just 8 hours. Even on a much smaller server, InterconnecT Version 6.0.7, the latest release, handled over 100 million billing records in 8 hours, well in excess of the needs of a tier one GSM operator or major fixed line carrier. Running on a powerful 64 way HP-UX Superdome server, and using real-world network data, InterconnecT processed the equivalent of 554.2 million Call Detail Records (CDRs) in one eight-hour period. For comparison a large fixed-line or major mobile carrier typically generates call volumes in the region of 20-100 million CDRs per day. Even on a much smaller HP server configuration, an 8-way rp8000, InterconnecT 6.0.7 processed 101.6 million CDRs per eight-hour period. Doubling the number of installed CPUs to 16 also doubled performance to 202.8 million CDRs, demonstrating almost 100% scalability, the ?holy grail? of high-end processing applications like telecoms billing. Interconnect or wholesale billing, the bills passed between operators for carrying each others traffic, typically makes up the first or second largest source of revenue for a telecoms carrier. Interconnect bills can run to hundreds of millons of Pounds annually, and the speed and accuracy of processing the complex calculations needed to generate bills can make a substantial difference to operator profitability. Intecs InterconnecT family is the worlds?s most successful product in this market, with more than 200 installations worldwide. Technical Background The benchmark was completed at HP?s Performance Centre in Boblingen, Germany. Hardware used included 1) an HP Superdome 64-way with 64 PA8700+ 875 MHz CPU, XP1024 disk array. 2) HP rp8400 with up to 16 PA8700+ 875 MHz CPUs, seven HP StorageWorks Disk System 2405 (ds2405) trays for the disk storage. Software configuration was HP-UX 11i (64-bit), Oracle 8.1.7.4 Enterprise Edition(32-bit), InterconnecT 6.0.7. The benchmark Reference Data is based upon an European operators data. The same Reference Data and CDR files have been used for all InterconnecT benchmarks. The CDRs are composed of 20% Transit calls.
