Ingenico Enters the Taxi Automation Market

Tuesday 21 September 2004 14:58 CET | News

Ingenico has built upon its success in the taxi industry around the world to create Ingecab, a new, integrated taxi automation solution.

IngeCab represents a world first for the taxi industry in that it integrates all in-car functions - payment, metering, dispatch and communications - into a single system. This enables taxi companies to cut costs, since technologies are no longer duplicated, to save time and to enhance data management security. The development of IngeCab was a global initiative. Ingenico R&D teams from Europe and the Asia-Pacific region, where Ingenico has also acquired a small Australian specialist communications company, Europa PL, joined forces to get this new product range to market faster. Accompanying the Ingecab roll-out are three major implementation programs in the Asia-Pacific region, involving Australia, Japan and Thailand. The largest of these programs is to provide the nationwide Cabcharge network in Australia with a complete integrated solution for its 15,000 + member taxi cabs throughout the country. This system enhances Ingenico’s existing payment and communication solution for Cabcharge, bringing it to a higher level of GPRS- and GPS-based secure transaction products. In addition to being the primary supplier of integrated taxi payment systems in Australia, Ingenico is currently implementing a customized payment and communication system for 1,000 taxis in Japan and is about to start the initial phase of a system involving several thousand taxis in Thailand.
