Cognitec is including 3D data processing functionality in a new version of its well established and widely recognized FaceVACS-SDK Software Development Kit which is now available to partners. This new release 4.0 is a logical extension of the existing versions of FaceVACS-SDK. It enables systems integrators to take advantage of integrating 3D sensors into their products and solutions. So-called 3D sensors have been offered by specialized device manufacturers for some time. Recently, some of those sensors have become suitable for face recognition in terms of resolution, speed, and price. 3D sensors measure the ‘depth’ or ‘range’ information of an object so that its shape can be derived. Face recognition systems up to now have used standard digital cameras producing color or grey-value images. Cognitec’s technology has been recognized by independent government testing as providing the best recognition performance available on the market today, based on conventional facial images. Combining the processing of standard digital images with 3D data processing will further boost this performance. More specifically, the use of 3D sensor information can considerably enhance recognition performance in cases where difficult lighting situations and pose variations occur. This is especially useful in outdoor scenarios and with noncooperative or casual users.
