CipherTrust has joined the Trusted Electronic Communications Forum (TECF), a leading industry consortium that aims to eliminate phishing, a fraud technique used to acquire personal information by sending fake e-mails impersonating a bank or trusted party.

As a founding member of the group, CipherTrust will provide technical advice based on its work developing comprehensive messaging security and anti-spam solutions for some of the largest companies in the world. According to the Gartner Group, 57 million U.S. Internet users have received fraudulent e-mails linked to phishing scams, and about 1.7 million of them may have been tricked into divulging personal information. TECF will promote industry technical standards and other best practices to catch phishing attempts or render them ineffective.
