CIBC and Aeroplan launch new credit card

Canadian CIBC and Aeroplan today announced the addition of a new credit card - called the CIBC Aero Classic VISA card - to the CIBC family of credit cards.

CIBC Aero Classic VISA has a low annual fee of $29, with no fee for additional cards. The card is targeted to consumers who use their card for their everyday spending - from cell phone bills and gas to groceries and dry cleaning. Cardholders earn one Aeroplan Mile for every two dollars spent. Customers will be able to collect Aeroplan Miles quickly and easily since VISA cards offer unsurpassed acceptance at more than 580,000 merchants in Canada and in over 20 million locations in 150 countries worldwide. For a limited time, customers will enjoy no annual fee for the first year and will receive 2,500 Bonus Aeroplan Miles. Customers can earn up to double Aeroplan Miles when they use their CIBC Aero Classic VISA to dine, golf, or stay at any one of the participating CIBC Bonus Rewards Establishments. The card also allows customers to save up to 20 per cent on AVIS car rentals at participating locations worldwide, carries a benefit of $100,000 Travel Accident Insurance, and offers free personalized convenience cheques, emergency card replacement and cash advances of up to $1,000 if the card is lost or stolen while travelling outside of Canada. The annual interest rate on outstanding balances is 19.5 per cent.
