Certicom Announces movianVPN 4.0

Tuesday 29 June 2004 13:40 CET | News

Certicom has launched movianVPN version 4.0, the first client to provide support for the Network Address Translation Traversal (NAT-T) protocol for mobile device platforms.

With its support for NAT-T, movianVPN enables IT managers to deploy strong security for their wireless and remote access without having to invest in new infrastructure. Established by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), NAT enables wireless services providers to share Internet Protocol (IP) addresses with multiple users or devices. However because NAT has had compatibility issues with the IP Security (IPSec) protocol, the IETF introduced the NAT-T protocol, which enables IPSec to function seamlessly with NAT firewalls. This latest version of movianVPN supports NAT-T, providing secure and faster connectivity to wireless connections located behind a NAT firewall. With support for Cisco IOS VPN routers and CoSine IPSX gateway, Certicom continues to support the greatest number of VPN gateway platforms of any VPN vendor. movianVPN 4.0 also offers enhanced support for Cisco 3000 and NetScreen gateways. movianVPN 4.0 supports the following handheld devices: Dell Axim X5; Handspring Treo 180/270 and 300; HP iPAQ 2210, 3950, h5450 and h5550 series; Kyocera 7135; Palm Tungsten W and Palm Tungsten C; and Toshiba e750. movianVPN continues to provide the widest support for VPN gateways, mobile platforms and connectivity methods. This includes devices using the embedded Linux, Palm, Symbian and Windows Mobile Operating Systems. movianVPN is compatible with devices manufactured by Casio, Dell, Fujitsu Siemens, Handspring, Hewlett Packard, Hitachi, Intermec, Kyocera, Motorola, Nokia, PalmOne, Samsung, Siemens, Sony Ericsson, and Toshiba. movianVPN is part of a complete Certicom solution for wireless handheld security: movianCrypt secures data on the device, while movianMail secures e-mail and attachments from sender to recipient-even on a server. To simplify the creation and enforcement of handheld security policies with large deployments, Certicom offers movianDM, a deployment manager.
