Z Energy launches pay-by-numberplate option at gas stations across New Zealand

Thursday 10 December 2020 10:31 CET | News

Petrol company Z Energy has introduced a pay-by-numberplate option at 61 stations across New Zealand.

The solution identifies vehicles and automatically makes the payment, without requiring the driver’s intervention. Z Energy worked with Rush Digital, the company behind the NZ Covid Tracer App, to develop the new payment system.

According to stuff.co.nz, to use pay-by-numberplate, drivers needed to download the Z App and register their number plate. Once registered, the cameras at Z Energy service stations will read the vehicle’s number plates automatically and release the pumps in any lane. The payment is automatically processed in the app once the nozzle is replaced.
