Klarna confirms USD 639 mln funding

Klarna has confirmed a fresh USD 639 million funding round from investors, including SoftBank’s Vision Fund 2, according to AltFi.

Klarna raised USD 1 billion earlier in 2021 from a number of undisclosed investors at a USD 31 billion price tag. The new round came at a USD 45.6 billion valuation. Along with SoftBank, existing investors Adit Ventures, Honeycomb Asset Management, and WestCap Group took part in the funding.

In the first quarter of 2021, Klarna gained momentum in the US where it now has 18 million customers and works with 24 of the top 100 US retailers. Total gross merchandise value for the fintech in the first quarter of 2021 was USD 18.9 billion, up from USD 9.9 billion in Q1 2020.

Klarna now operates in 17 markets, with several launches coming in 2021 including France in the first week of June 2021.
