Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook have been celebrating people raising over USD 5 billion dollars for nonprofits and personal causes on Facebook and Instagram.
Amid top causes by year, Facebook mentions:
2016 and 2017: Children’s health and mental health;
2018: Equality and civil justice – over USD 25 million was raised within two weeks in June for organisations like RAICES, ACLU, KIND, and others focused on immigration advocacy;
2019: Environment - millions raised for those affected by hurricane Dorian and the Albanian earthquake;
2020: Urgent humanitarian crises and climate - the largest fundraiser on our platform was for the Australian wildfires.
The social media company says that they are inspired by the more than 85 million organisers and donors who made a difference using Fundraisers. Most donations are under USD 25 USD. When it comes to who donates more, women lead the way. In 2020, women created twice as many fundraisers on Facebook as men and made twice as many donations, with 64% of total funds raised coming from women.
