Zong launches hosted micro-payments system

Friday 3 October 2008 13:24 CET | News

US-based start-up has launched its mobile payments system allowing application developers and web publishers to bill customers via their mobile phone bill. The system is already being used by several Facebook application providers.

The system is a hosted payment application specifically for micro-payment on the Internet. Customers enter their mobile number in the Zong application when they buy an application or widget, the Zong application then sends a PIN number to the customer’s mobile phone which is then entered into the payment application. Users will receive the charge on their next phone bill. This hosted payment service has been developed on top of Zong’s existing platform and API, with the same tools that are available to any developer setting up a free account.

Zong is available on 64 carriers in 13 countries. Zong is a division of Echovox, a multinational mobile media services provider.
