Apple Pay enables Visa cardholders in Egypt to make contactless payments in-store by simply holding their iPhone or Apple Watch near a payment terminal. The payment process is secured through authentication methods such as Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, along with a dynamic security code for every transaction.
In addition to in-store payments, Apple Pay supports online and in-app transactions via iPhone, iPad, and Mac. This eliminates the need for repeatedly entering contact, shipping, and billing details, simplifying purchases for food delivery, transportation, parking, and online shopping.
Apple Pay incorporates robust security measures to protect user information. Actual card numbers are neither stored on the device nor on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, a certified chip designed to safeguard payment information.
Visa customers can set up Apple Pay quickly by adding their Visa credit or debit cards to the Wallet app on their iPhone. Once a card is added, users can begin using Apple Pay immediately across their devices, including Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac. Additionally, cardholders will continue to enjoy all existing rewards and benefits associated with their Visa cards.
The introduction of Apple Pay in Egypt reflects Visa’s commitment to expanding payment innovations globally. With contactless payments already gaining popularity in the country, this launch aligns with consumer preferences for secure and simple payment solutions.
The digital payment landscape in Egypt has been evolving steadily, driven by a push from the government and private sectors to promote cashless transactions. The Central Bank of Egypt has been supportive of this shift, launching initiatives to improve financial inclusion and boost the use of digital payment methods.
