Tigo, Airtel, Zantel team up for mobile money transfer service

Friday 6 June 2014 08:49 CET | News

Telecommunications companies Tigo, Airtel and Zantel have entered an agreement to allow Tanzania-based customers to send money to each other whether using Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money or EzyPesa on their mobile handsets.

Under the terms of the agreement, the mobile network operators allow their customer to send and receive money across the network. The e-money goes directly to the respective customer e-wallet account.

The service is expected to start by the end of June.

In February 2014, Tigo launched a cross-border mobile money remittance service between Tanzania and Rwanda.
