Sri Lanka mobile network Dialog adopts QR code payments

Sri-Lanka-based mobile operator Dialog Axiata has adopted Sri Lanka’s national quick response code (QR) which will enable payments at over 50,000 merchants around the country.

The LankaQR standard was developed by Lanka Clear, Sri Lanka’s national payments and checque clearing company. The adoption of the standard is said to enable any LANKAQR enabled payment app users to purchase goods and services through Dialog merchants accepting LANKAQR payments at no transaction cost with instant payment notifications, Dialog said. 

Dialog said it will bring in over 50,000 Dialog merchant without a set up cost, who will have lower transaction costs and instant notification receipts. Dialog’s eZ Cash branded mobile wallet customers would also be able to made payments with LankaQR, using any bank account, or Visa and Mastercard debt and credit cards, the company said.
