Wednesday 20 November 2013 13:02 CET | News

Gemalto, a Dutch digital security company, has been selected to supply its Optelio Contactless Stickers to financial institution UniCredit Bank in Russia to enable mobile payments.

With this solution, Gemaltos payment sticker can be affixed to the rear of the mobile phone to turn any handset without built-in contactless features into a contactless payment device. The Optelio Contactless Sticker is certified by international payment associations and is part of the range of Gemalto products and services.

For the Russian market, the stickers can be issued in relation to any current account open with UniCredit Bank. There are approximately 20,000 NFC-enabled terminals in Moscow alone and, with the addition of the users PIN, the stickers will also support transactions worth over EUR 20.

In recent news, Gemalto has entered an agreement with mobile operator Telenor and financial services provider DNB to provide TSM Nordic, a company owned by Telenor and DNB, with mobile contactless technology.
