Under the terms of the deal, Rogers has selected Sequent’s open Wallet Management Platform to power its suretap wallet, a mobile wallet from a carrier in Canada, and to enable near field communication (NFC) functionality for a number of mobile applications.
Sequent’s open Wallet Management Platform is set to allow Rogers to enable application developers to enable NFC payment transactions in retail, transit, ticketing, vending, access-control and other mobile applications. At the same time, banks and other card issuers can leverage the Sequent platform to provide secure access to digital card.
At launch, the customers who download the suretap Wallet are set to have access to a co-branded virtual Rogers Prepaid MasterCard that can be loaded with a number of features including gifting of gift cards, reloading of prepaid cards, the ability to check account balances, view recent transactions and use location services to find contactless payment terminals nearby.
Sequent was founded in 2010 and is a provider of Trusted Service Manager (TSM) and wallet management software and services that enable banks and card issuers to provision and manage card credentials on the secure elements of mobile phones. Its wallet-enablement platform and SDK enable the addition of near field communication (NFC) payments and other credentials into mobile apps for consumers.
In recent news, MasterCard has inked a multi-year strategic agreement with Rogers Communications to support the Rogers Prepaid MasterCard available inside the newly launched Rogers suretap wallet operating on MasterCards payment network.
