Qatar enables contactless fare payments for public transportation

Wednesday 6 April 2022 10:13 CET | News

According to Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communication (MOTC), the country has enabled an automated fare collection system to allow contactless payments for metro, bus, tram apps, and taxis.

The new feature is part of the Sila multimodal public transportation project where customers can use their debit or credit cards, the Sila transit card, or any mobile device to make contactless, real-time payments in Qatar’s public means of transportation, including taxis.

The brand that gathers Qatar’s public transport under one umbrella, Sila, was unveiled in 2021 by the MOTC, and aims to improve the accessibility of the country’s transport network, providing seamless mobility for citizens and tourists. The new unified fare collection and ticketing system will also allow public transit customers to use one ticket across all forms of land transportation.
