PayByPhone app launches in Italy and Germany

Thursday 26 May 2022 10:21 CET | News

Global app for mobile parking payments PayByPhone has announced it expands to Germany and Italy by adding a total of 470 cities  where its services are now available.

PayByPhone allows drivers to pay for parking and extend parking sessions remotely via its mobile app, as well as provide smart alerts, helping drivers avoid parking fines. The app counts for over 50 million users and is now available in more than 1,200 cities across 11 countries from two continents – Europe and North America.

The company’s expansion aims to meet the needs of travellers as COVID-19 restrictions lift after three years of pandemic. The surge in cross-border travelling is likely to make popular destinations across Europe crowded again, determining visitors to spend hours trying to find a convenient spot to park their vehicles.

Data from the app mentions that parking activity is exceeding pre-pandemic levels and suggests that people prefer travelling by car for safety reasons, which will add to the already busy traffic infrastructure in popular destinations from North America and Europe.

PayByPhone can now be used in tourist destinations like Berlin (Germany) and Naples (Italy), in addition to existing cities like Paris, London, and Amsterdam. The app is a subsidiary of Volkswagen Financial Services AG and processes over USD 641 million in payments per year.
