According to AiThority the initiative comes to reduce the number of people touching the parking meters, as the COVID-19 crisis led city leaders to encourage residents to use the app versus the meter or paystation to prevent the spread of the virus.
To use the ParkMobile app, the user must enter the zone number posted on stickers and signs around the meter, select the amount of time needed, and touch the ‘Start Parking’ button to begin the session. Besides, the user is allowed to extend the time of the parking session on his mobile device, without having to go back to the meter. The ParkMobile app is free and available for both iPhone and Android devices.
Furthermore, ParkMobile can be used to pay for parking in Washington DC, Alexandria, and Montgomery County. Beyond the metro area, the app is available in over 400 cities across the US such as New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, and Pittsburgh.
