Simpay, which has recently announced its commercial launch dates for later in 2005, was founded by Orange, Telefonica Móviles, T-Mobile and Vodafone. The platform facilitates payment for mobile commerce transactions through the development of an open and interoperable solution. Simpay announced at this year’s 3GSM that Amena and Proximus have become the latest operators to join the scheme. Nimbus Systems launched into northern Europe in January of this year, when it also introduced its m-payments solution Mistral. The system is compatible with the Simpay standard and provides flexible merchant communication protocols. Mistral enables operators to implement the Simpay standard in a fast and cost-effective manner. It also supports several different billing models; operators can use their own billing infrastructure or Stored Value Accounts provided by Mistral. The platform also supports e-Wallet functionality. Simpay membership is open to all mobile operators, further operators are expected to join during 2005.
