Nigeria: MTN, Stanbic IBTC partner for mobile banking services

South African mobile telecommunication services provider MTN has entered an agreement with financial institution Stanbic IBTC Bank, a member of Standard Bank Group, to provide mobile banking services to Nigerian consumers, online media outlet allafrica.com reports.

In recent news, Western Union has entered an agreement with South African mobile telecommunication services provider MTN to launch a mobile money transfer service in Uganda and to provide 9,000 branded mobile Yellow Phones to Ugandans.

Under the agreement, users of MTN’s mobile money transfer service in Uganda are set to be able to add funds to their accounts that were sent through Western Union’s system. The new service also enables MTN customers to send money internationally with Western Union from their Mobile Money accounts for cash payouts at Western Union Agent locations worldwide or to subscribers of select mobile phone companies with which Western Union has agreements.
