MasterCard, First Data, Prudential launch Pogo> mPOS service in Hong Kong

MasterCard and First Data, a global provider of electronic commerce and payment processing services, have entered an agreement to launch the latter’s Pogo> mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) service in Hong Kong.

Under the agreement, insurance firm The Prudential Assurance Company Hong Kong (Prudential) is the enterprise Pogo> mPOS client in Hong Kong launching the service across its agency and bancassurance sales force. The service is set to be distributed by First Data Merchant Solutions, First Data’s direct-to-market merchant acquiring business.

First Data’s Pogo> is a business-grade solution that enables credit, signature debit and cash acceptance anywhere in the US the merchant has wireless coverage. Pogo> works by allowing a merchant to combine a web-enabled smartphone or tablet with a mobile application and secure mobile card reader to create a point-of-sale (POS) device that leverages First Data’s proven technology, infrastructure and broad distribution channel including relationships with financial institutions and others.

In recent news, Merseyrail, a UK-based train operating company, has entered a strategic alliance with MasterCard and Global Payments to launch contactless payment technology at its rails stations.
