Australia-based payment provider with over 11,000 merchant clients, Live Payments, has announced a strategic partnership with global card issuer and payments processor Visa.
The agreement between the two companies aims to help Australian SMEs and taxi operators to accept digital payments conveniently and securely, using Visa technology.
Live Payments will employ’s Visa’s tap-to-phone technology to transform merchants’ smartphones into POS devices, without additional costs. Participant merchants at the programme will be able to accept fast and secure payments from any contactless-enabled Visa card, wearable, or device. The customer simply taps to pay against a merchant’s smartphone or tablet and will instantly pay for any service or product.
The tap-to-phone technology doesn’t require additional expensive hardware or devices and represents a great payment method for micro businesses and small merchants that, otherwise, might not be able to access a full Point of Sale (POS) infrastructure. Moreover, the partnership between Visa and Live Payments aims to boost digitalisation and enhance the cashless economy.
Although the Tap-to-Pay technology has recently reached Australia, studies show that around 45% of consumers are keen on using this payment option if available, which they believe is easy to use, time-saving, secure, and eliminates the need to carry cash.
