Kakao Pay enables AliExpress mobile payments in South Korea

Thursday 3 September 2020 12:30 CET | News

South Korea-based mobile payment company Kakao Pay has become the first in Korea to service the Chinese online retail platform AliExpress.

According to Pulse, Kakao Pay made the Chinese retailer available to Korea-based users for the first time in July 2020 and went full scale on 31 August 2020.

Moreover, since Chinese-made products are sold at a cheaper price than their Korean counterparts, with little to no delivery charge, South Korea is considered one of AliExpress’ major markets. Besides, in March 2020, the site added a logistics route devoted solely to Korea to speed up the delivery process.

Overall, Kakao Pay has been continuously expanding its network of overseas ecommerce platforms. For instance, it added iHerb, a US-based online retailer of nutritional supplements, health foods and personal care products, in August 2020, Pulse reported.
